Part 1: Amazon JungleOur experiences here will be in rustic conditions with dugout boats, jungle trails, platform tent camping, and even a lesson on jungle survival. Don't worry, we have flush toilets, showers, delicious meals, and mosquito netting around the beds! Our intention is to give you the best possible jungle experience and wildlife encounters with as many creature comforts as possible.
With a quarter of all life on Earth, we will be in the middle of untouched wildlife diversity. Birds, insects, plants, mammals, reptiles, amphibians...we'll see animals that you've never even heard of before! Our guides are trained specialists to maximize our wildlife sightings, plus we will setup our wildlife cameras and conduct our own study! We will teach you jungle survival skills, how the locals survive and thrive in the rainforest, medicinal plants, and even construction techniques. Yes, you'll go home with new skills! One whole day will be dedicated to exploring the Amazon River. Our search for giant river otters and pink river dolphins will undoubtedly lead us into a plethora of other wildlife and fish. You'll learn how the locals catch fish, too! At night, we head back out for spotting Caiman, and our guide will hopefully catch one! Another day will be dedicated to exploring the forests. We will setup some trail cameras, hike trails, search for birds, frogs, monkeys, lizards and any other wildlife we come across. We also get a unique perspective by climbing an observation tower to witness life in the tree canopy. Our last day is spent with a local native village. Learn how they not only survive, but thrive in the jungle. We will get hands-on with construction techniques, herbal and tree usage, and a cooking lesson! So much to offer that we can't list it all here! Suffice it to say that this is an immersive segment of the trip. If anything is too much for you, you can always opt to stay in the EcoLodge, but we want to challenge your limits in the safest possible manner, so we really hope you at least try everything first before "throwing in the towel." No age limits...it's about testing "your" limits. On our way out we'll check out the floating markets of Iquitos before departing the jungle for Cusco. |
PERU: Amazon - Machu Picchu - NazcaThis trip has been setup by two Wildlife Biologists as their "Dream Trip" into Peru. No stone will be left unturned after this extensive and adventurous Eco-Venture!
The Eco-Venture begins in Lima, Peru. Once we "have you," all travel is included within Peru, so we whisk you off to interior Amazonia for 4-days and 3 nights. Part 2: Cusco & Machu PicchuOur second leg of the trip is heading up the Andean Mountains to the ancient city of Cusco. This city was the center of the Inca Empire for a thousand years, so there is tons of history, architecture and mystery to be explored and discovered.
A short distance away is the extremely important Sacsahuamán site. Dating back before the Inca, this site has archeologists and engineers completely baffled by its anti-seismic construction and stones fitted together so tightly that not even a piece of paper fits between them! Some have wondered about extraterrestrial involvement. We will spend one day heading up to the highest peaks to explore the ruins of Machu Picchu, a majestic citadel with unbelievable vistas and ancient mysteries. This whole area is home to hundreds of endemic species, only found on these high mountain latitudes, and we'll keep our wildlife list going. After one last night in Cusco, you can either depart for home or continue onward for our last leg of the trip...near Nasca. Part 3: Nasca ExtensionWe start our desert adventure with a plane ride over the Nazca Lines in order to marvel at the ancient images which can only be seen from high altitude flights. This is the farthest reach of the Incan Empire and you won't want to miss it!
Our hotel is in an oasis in the middle of the high desert. We can explore this region by dune buggy or just watch the sunset as the desert turns 100 shades of red. The tour is capped by one of the most exhilarating tours of Ballistas Islands, dubbed "the poor man's Galapagos Islands," these islands are jam packed with seals, flamingos, penguins, numerous species of sea birds, and more! You are going to want to save one SD Card just for this!!! We return to Lima to say our goodbyes to this wonderful country and all the new friends you have made! |

Worried about the cost?
WELL, we have compared our trip to NatGeo's Peru trip (http://www.nationalgeographicexpeditions.com/expeditions/peru-amazon-tour/detail) which we see all the same stuff but here are the differences: NatGeo's trip is $8,999.00 and does not include in-country airfare. Ours is $4899.00 and does. Also, our trips try to get closer to the local culture so we stay in locally owned hotels with the ambiance of the local community whereas NatGeo stays in very plush hotels so you never feel like you've left America. We've been told over and over that our trips are WAY BETTER for that reason. :-))
