Quail vs Tick Study

This fascinating study was my own creation after years of biological inventories in Caleb Smith State Park in Smithtown NY.  These inventories lead me to my current theory that indoor/outdoor cats and feral cat colonies, and rapid land clearing for developments, has lead to a population crash of our native ground birds...our Northern Bobwhite Quail.  Once gone, we lost our best frontline of defense against ticks which now rage out of control spreading debilitating diseases to humans and wildlife.  My study aims to bring back the Quail to Long Island while educating people about the fascinating behavior and ecology of this native bird, and spreading the importance of keeping our kitty cats inside and separate from nature as all domestic animals should be.  I'm asking schools across Long Island to stop using duck or chicken eggs for their life cycle studies, and switch to Northern Bobwhite Quail eggs, keep the chicks for 1-2 weeks before donating them to our study.  Me and my volunteers will raise them to adults and release them into pre-determined locations around the Island in an attempt to restart the Quail population, and try to get the tick situation under control with Mother Nature's assistance!  Starting at $325 plus mileage.

LIVE Animal Shows

Live Animal Ambassadors are an exciting way to learn about nature, 1-2 classes at a time (up to 50 people).  Depending on the individual animals, the setting of the program, and the demeanor of the audience, these animals might be seen, touched or even HELD by participants.  Ultimately, safety is our #1 concern...both for our audience as well as the animals.  After 30+ years of conducting Live Animal Shows, no human was ever injured (BUT I have had animals injured from indelicate children!).  We support our local Wildlife Rehabilitators by working with their non-releasable animals in our educational programs.  This has the added benefit of socializing and exercising the animal AND creating revenue for the rehabilitators.  These are designed to MAXIMIZE animal-handling time with the students and can include wildlife artifacts as well (skulls, furs, feathers, nests, etc.).  We offer many different types of LIVE Animal Shows and also offer customized shows to fit your educational needs and budget.  Starting at $350 plus mileage.

Auditorium Presentations
Auditorium Presentations are designed to entertain the masses, but hey, we try our best to provide interaction with individuals from the audience.  3 or more classes (50+ individuals) is considered a Presentation.  Presentations will likely have a powerpoint component so that all can see, LIVE Animals, and wildlife artifacts (skulls, furs, feathers, nests, etc.), usually a guest speaker or two, ...so we might require a projector and computer, and perhaps a sound system if needed.  Starting at $450 + mileage.

Workshops
Wildlife Workshops are in-school programs that are custom-built to help teachers accomplish their goals through exciting hands-on activities.  That's why we have SO MANY different kinds of workshops!  Whether you are teaching about science, technology, engineering, art or math, these STEAM workshops are designed to be fun and exciting with nature components to whirl your students into subject mastery!   There's everything from Anti-bullying to Zoology...and if it's not there, then ask for a custom program. Starting at $325 + mileage + materials.

Field Trips
Field-trips are ANY activity which gets us outside!  Whether we hop on a bus or simply hike the school grounds, our field-trips are designed to engage your students in inquiry science!  Each trip is a custom build...that's what we do best!
No bus? No problem!  We will keep it on school grounds. Also keep in mind that New York State Parks offers grants for busing to your closest State Park, and we've had good luck with this so far!
Free buses within district? No problem!  Long Island is good like that...I'm sure there is some local Park "in district" that we can visit.
Got buses? Great, let me take you to the perfect place to exemplify your teaching goals.
Starting at $850 + mileage.  Plus we help you with Park Permits and coordination with Park staff!!!  Additional Naturalists are available!

Teacher In-Service / PD
Many of these programs have been adapted to fulfill the requirements of a 1-day, 3-day or 5-day Teacher In-Services / Professional Developments.  We can provide this service in your school, or bring several schools together into a common location.  Designed to give teachers the tools they need to bring a greater depth and breadth to their subject, we get hands-on training, down and dirty learning, and take-home projects ready to use in the classroom!  Starting at  $450 + mileage + materials.

Scouts
Ranger Eric got his start as a Cub Scout, and is always looking for ways to stay connected to Scouts!  We offer a multitude of Scout Programs, all of which have a little bit more "kick" because we know our Scouts are little bit ahead of the curve when it comes to nature appreciation and education.  Starting at $325 + mileage.

Libraries
This link takes you off our website and onto the New York State Library Database of Performers and Programs.  YC2N has been conducting library programs across Long Island and NYC.  Please feel free to choose from this database or any of the programs listed here on the website, or ask for a custom program!  Many Libraries are starting to offer Field Trips to any number of cool places within easy reach of your Library...why not yours?  Starting at $350 with discounts for multiple bookings.

Birthday Parties
Yes, Birthday Parties are just plain fun, but if you're bringing in Ranger Eric for the Show then you know you're going to learn all about the animals, what it takes to keep them as a pet, and of course...how to handle the animals safely!!!  Starting at $350 + mileage.

Mileage rated from Western Suffolk County. +$25 for Eastern Suffolk County, Nassau County.  +$50 Queens. +$150 for Brooklyn, NYC. Discounts available.  Call or email for your custom quote.
